Concepts of Islam for First Responders

This course is an expansion of CS 114, Introduction to Islam for First Responders and will provide in-depth information to the First Responder concerning the different elements that make up the Muslim culture and why it is important to recognize the different aspects of that culture when conducting emergency assistance and community relations.  This class will introduce and provide extensive information to the student to the following:  History and Divisions of Islam, Texts and Tenants of Islam, Culture of Islam along with an in-depth cultural comparison between the values found in the Middle East and the United States. This course will give students the ability to identify differences in cultural values in order for them to more successfully understand the practices found within the Muslim community they support.  In return for demonstrating cultural sensitivity often results in a community displaying increased cooperation and support.
