Each student must have completed the Intensive Functional Language Novice Course
Instructors guide students through a one-day immersion exercise in simulated real-world environments, either in urban or field locales. Each day, the students participate in multiple situations involving key leader engagements, situational dilemmas, commerce, meals, and conflict resolution. All situations involve realistic linguistic and cultural interaction with native speakers playing roles, scripted and articulated in differing degrees and at various proficiency levels, mainly from ILR 0 to 1. The primary purpose of the immersion is to reproduce a social reality, demonstrate linguistic and cultural proficiency, and develop team building, critical thinking skills, and leadership abilities.
